U.S News Best National University Rankings

The US News Report's Best Colleges rankings are one of the most highly regarded college rankings in the United States. This year's edition evaluated 1,500 bachelor's degree-granting institutions from across the country, assessing them on 17 measures of academic quality. It is an invaluable tool for students to use in choosing the right college for their needs.

How National University Ranks Are Determined?

To determine the rankings, we evaluated 17 indicators that measure academic quality in each national university, then weighed and normalized the results to create 10 distinct overall rankings for universities. The top-performing university in each ranking received an overall score of 100, and other schools' scores were calculated on a 0-99 scale based on the distance from that top-performing school. We also included the bottom quartile range for schools placing outside of the top 75%. For example, rather than displaying a school's individual rank at No. 102, it will display its ranking's bottom quartile range, such as No. 90-120.

By using this method, we are able to accurately assess and compare universities across the United States and give students a better idea of which schools they should consider when making their college decisions. By examining these rankings, students can create a shortlist of potential schools that meet their standards. These rankings provide insight into the quality of an institution's academics, giving an idea of what to expect should they decide to attend. Additionally, they may also provide students with new options that they wouldn't have considered before, allowing them to broaden their search.

No matter what your academic goals and preferences are, the U.S News Best Colleges rankings are a great way to ensure you make an informed decision when choosing the best university for you.
